A day in the life of 3 bassets

Basset hounds can be very intersting dogs to observe. This blog is about 3 bassets that live in California.

Scared basset hound

Have you ever noticed that basset hounds are afraid of the silliest things?  One of my basset hounds is afraid of his own shadow.  Even though he has lived in this house his whole life, he still gets startled when he walks by the oven and sees his shadow in it.  Perhaps he is worried that he will one day end up in the oven?  Or maybe he is concerned that there is already a basset hound in the oven?  Maybe he just needs therapy..

Wouldn't surprise me a bit!!!
I think ALL hounds, be they beagle, bassett (raised 2), or coon (1 currently rescued) routinely "march to their own drummer", whether we comprehend or not. It endears them to us, don't you think?

I had to laugh out loud when I read this -- my Basset was terrified of the ceiling fan. In order to come in from outside, he had to go directly under the fan (8' up in the air). He did everything except roll across the floor -- he did bank shots off the couch to avoid going under the fan, he sneaked around chairs and under the coffee table and over the large old floor register, and once he wouldn't even come in because the fan blew a piece of paper across the floor in front of him!

As an aside, what a wonderful blog!
