A day in the life of 3 bassets

Basset hounds can be very intersting dogs to observe. This blog is about 3 bassets that live in California.

What do they howl at?

Every now and then, the bassets will all start to howl.  I am puzzled as to the reason.  It’s not like there are wolves in the neighborhood howling, or even dogs barking.  Everything will be quiet and calm, and then all three will start howling.  Then as if it were planned, they stop, and go back to sleep.  Perhaps they are just singing a silly basset song.  Or, maybe they are plotting to take over the world, and are communicating with some other basset hounds... Who knows... But it is funny to listen to their song.

Our newspaper featured a local artist who paints dogs interestingly. He said in the article they really were aliens come to this planet because of the way they'd get out in the yard and howl to stuff we couldn't see. Having seen "Good Boy", I'm thinking I'm agreeing!!!

I think I agree as well. My three bassets sometimes can do some supernatural things (like get the loaf of bread from the back of the counter -- they are 3 1/2 feet long, the height of the counter is 3 feet high and 2 feet deep... you do the math) ;-)

Our Basset taught our Shih Tzu to howl, and they seems to have certain times of the day when they start singing. When this happens, my husband and I just arrooo along with them!

I like to howel with the bassets as well. They enjoy it and so do I. sometimes I can even get them to start to howl when I howl at them. Other times they will just bark. They are very interesting animals to observe.
